DES MOINES, Iowa — Rep. Zach Nunn (R - Iowa) and Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D - Missouri) on Thursday unveiled the bipartisan Rural Housing Service Reform Act. The bill aims to make it more accessible and affordable to secure a home for seniors, veterans and low-income families in rural areas.
“In many small towns, aging USDA finance programs, some that have not been updated in decades, continue the risk of leaving rural Americans behind,” Nunn said.
The bill would create a program to make it easier for nonprofits like Habitat for Humanity to secure at-risk properties.
“Giving people the pride of homeownership, but also a pathway to be successful, builds on that next generation while taking care of our greatest generation,” Nunn said.
