OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - After many nights spent in the hospital, a girl with a rare disease in Omaha is using her hobby for good. She’s leveraging her interests to make a difference.

Fidget toys are Sarahya Johnson’s favorite.

“I feel happy once it spins like that!” said Johnson, watching a fidget toy.

“She just lights up and she just becomes herself,” said Sonja Redding, Sarahya’s mom.

Amid Sarahya’s joy, you’d never know she has anxiety.

It stems from medical trauma.

“I have lost track, but for Sarahya it’s somewhere around 50 hospitalizations,” Redding said.

Sarahya has Methylmalonic Acidemia, a rare genetic disorder that leaves her immunocompromised.

She also has autism.

When she was in the hospital...
