MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Ouachita Parish school bus drivers are reporting that other drivers on the road are illegally passing buses as they are dropping off and picking up students.

The Ouachita Parish School Board’s Transportation Department explained that the stop signs are on the bus for a reason, and can be the difference between life and death for students.

According to The National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services , school bus drivers across the country see around 218,000 people pass their buses illegally in a single day.

OPSB’S Transportation Department director, Waylon McCormick, says the illegal passing of school buses is one of the greatest safety concerns for students in our area.
