Milko Lazarov’s Tarika will be Bulgaria ‘s International Feature Film submission for the 98th Academy Awards.

The film, starring Veseka Valcheva and Zahari Baharov, premiered in October at the BFI London Film Festival. and won Best Film and the FIPRESCI Award at the Kolkata International Film in December.

Tarika is the international title of the movie, whose whose original Bulgarian title, Стадото , translates to The Herd in English.

The movie explores the themes of tolerance and good vs. evil through the story of Tarika (Valcheva), a girl with medical condition that may give her supernatural abilities. She had been accepted by the village she and her father (Baharov) live in until livestock start to mysteriously die and the villagers blame her.
