When it convenes for its second meeting of August, Ocean City Council members will face a decision looming over the town for about a year ― the future of Wonderland Pier.

The council is expected to vote next Thursday on a resolution on whether to consider the defunct theme park, which closed last year after financial struggles, as an area in need of redevelopment. Should the resolution pass, the matter will be referred to the city’s planning board, which then considers the council’s request, city officials said in a news release Thursday.

The designation would be based upon the property’s condition, city officials said. The process examines varying aspects of the property, including whether it is seen as being in substandard condition.
