AMAZON is preparing to close down one of its biggest platforms after 14 years.

But fear not, it's not the main shopping service of course.

Another area the tech giant has long tried to make inroads is via its own app store.

Amazon Appstore acted as a third party alternative to Google Play, with more than 500,000 apps.

But by Wednesday it will be no more on Android devices.

It will continue to exist on Amazon Fire TVs and Amazon Fire tablets, where it's the main app store available.

Amazon has been reminding users of the imminent closure on Android for sometime , urging people to check if they have any funds on the Amazon Appstore.
