ANCHORAGE — When President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin sit for a high-stakes summit on Friday, the two leaders will bring vastly different approaches to the encounter.

In one chair will be the U.S. leader, who has demanded an end to the war in Ukraine but whose improvisatory approach often leaves details to others. In the other seat will be Putin, a former spy who officials say has an encyclopedic knowledge of the battlefield and a careful strategy about how to throw fellow leaders off-balance.
