At sunrise, the sound of bagpipes drifted across the jagged spine of the Bridger Range, carrying on the wind toward runners gathered at Fairy Lake.
It was 6:30 a.m., cold enough to feel like November, but spirits were high. Racers bounced on their toes, shook out their legs and swapped nervous smiles before setting off on one of the most technical trail races in the West, the 39th annual Ed Anacker Bridger Ridge Run.
