A 47-year-old Scottish father has tragically died in an accident at sea while on a family holiday in Turkey.

John Nelson, from the town of Arbroath, near Dundee, was on holiday with his son Josh and his girlfriend Sharon Stuart when the tragedy unfolded.

The incident occurred on July 31 when the trio embarked on a boat trip off the coast of Turnuc, near Marmaris.

At some point during that activity, John entered the water and was found motionless a short while later.

Sailors from other boats pulled him from the water and he was transferred to the care of paramedics by the coastguard but could not be saved.

According to the Daily Record , Turkish police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
