WASHINGTON — As National Guard troops and federal law enforcement officials patrol the nation’s capital, following President Donald Trump’s unprecedented takeover of the Washington D.C. police department, several Kentucky Republicans on Capitol Hill are backing him.

Official statistics show violent crime in D.C. has declined 26% over the last year, but Rep. James Comer, R-Tompkinsville, told Newsmax Thursday that the president had no choice, and suggested other cities could be next.

“We’re going to support doing this in other cities if it works out in Washington, D.C. and again, it’s unfortunate,” he said. “We need to focus on the big cities in America now, and that’s what the president’s doing.”
