It is obvious enough that without security, a society cannot function. People must feel safe in order to live decent lives. History and our current world provide plenty of examples where security and safety are not just in peril but entirely absent. Current war zones, along with failed states like Haiti or the Democratic Republic of Congo, show the collective trauma inflicted by a lack of security.
