If someone asks what sort of music I like, I'll usually hesitate because it's not an easy question to answer. There's not an obvious superficial connection, so it's difficult to categorize. I'm a longtime fan of the Grateful Dead and most of its off shoots and cover bands, such as Dark Star Orchestra, Joe Russo's Almost Dead, and Dogs in a Pile – a catalog of songs that defy categorization themselves. I like a lot of jazz, bluegrass, ska, reggae, and whatnot. In its time, I despised what was generally referred to as "disco," but I come to appreciate the Bee Gees, Abba, and that Gloria Gaynor song. I grew up on radio, so I have a fondness for Three Dog Night, the Beatles, Steely Dan, and countless others. John Prine. Ferlin Husky. Jon Batiste. John Legend. Andrea Bocelli. Alison Krauss.
