Along with 63 national parks, over 420 national park sites in America have recently seen unprecedented changes in the way they function. Staffing restrictions, budget limitations, cash bans, and record visitation are challenges that have impacted the visitor experience, mostly negatively. The devastation caused by weather anomalies in various national park sites has only made matters worse. The National Park Service has lost 24% of its permanent staff, and as of July 2025, seasonal hiring is lagging by 3,500 positions .
