A business trip at the end of 1986 started like any other business trip to Taiwan, except my wife Carol and I had our new baby Jonathon along.

The flight to Taipei was uneventful, smooth and long. We were picked up at the airport by our Taiwanese business associate, Gary, and taken to our hotel in downtown Taipei.

Each morning Gary drove us to the apparel factory in Taipei. We had days of intense work, reviewing designs and planning for the next season. The days were long with a stop for lunch, late dinners and back to the hotel.

Our final morning in Taipei started routinely. I got up early to prepare for the long trip home with our baby. I turned on the TV to get the news in English. I expected the usual, a weather report and local business news.
