State pensioners are poised to receive complimentary laptops and mobile phones through a fresh £9.5million initiative aimed at boosting online connectivity. The Digital Inclusion Innovation Fund forms a key component of the Labour government's Plan for Change. ‌

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) highlighted that digital exclusion is hampering far too many individuals from achieving their full potential. A DSIT statement read: "Funding will be awarded based on merit to the highest scoring applications , while ensuring as much as possible that projects are funded across all nine regions of England." ‌
