PASSAIC COUNTY, New Jersey (WABC) -- A boil water advisory has been lifted for residents in some parts of Paterson, New Jersey, allowing them to safely resume normal water usage.

According to the Passaic Valley Water Commission, the advisory has been lifted for about 77,000 customers who live south of Broadway, east of Spruce Street and west of Route 20.

The boil water advisory remains in effect for customers who live outside of this area in Paterson, as well as those in North Haledon and Haledon, the utilities company said.

For customers who have had the advisory lifted, the Passaic Valley Water Commission recommends taking the following steps:

Run your faucets (hot & cold) for 8-10 minutes

Clean or replace showerheads & faucet aerators

Flush refrigerator water dispensers for 5+
