Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the Wednesday shooting of three people as they sat inside a vehicle in Carpentersville.

Rafael Ruiz Jr., 21, of Aurora, and a 17-year-old juvenile from Carpentersville were taken into custody Friday after Carpenterville police executed a search warrant in the 1500 block of Pawnee Road.

Ruiz has been charged with one count each of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a street gang member and three counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, all felony charges, a Carpentersville police news release said. He was also found to be wanted on five outstanding warrants.

The juvenile faces the same charges as well as one count of felony obstructing justice.

The shooting took place about 11:25 p.m. when the two suspects approached
