LORENA, Texas (KWTX) - The 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals denied Lorena ISD Primary School Principal April Jewell’s immunity claims in a lawsuit filed by the parents of a student that was molested in 2020.

Jewell is being sued by the parents of Jane Doe, a Lorena ISD kindergartener who was molested in 2020.

A ruling issued Friday by a three-member panel of the federal appellate court upheld a lower court’s findings which denied immunity claims and denied a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.

The panel said in their ruling;

“We AFFIRM the district court’s denial of qualified immunity and AFFIRM its finding of conscience-shocking executive action.”

Circuit Judge Justice James C. Ho concurred with the court’s opinion;
