“This ends now,” warns the letter from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to Gov. Dan McKee
PROVIDENCE – The U.S. attorney general has sent a letter to Gov. Dan McKee warning him that Rhode Island has become a target as President Donald Trump’s administration cracks down on immigration.
“You are hereby notified that your jurisdiction has been identified as one that engages in sanctuary policies and practices that thwart federal immigration enforcement to the detriment of the interests of the United States,” says the letter, which is dated Aug. 13 and signed by U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi.
The letter comes as arrests by ICE have surged in Rhode Island . As of June 10, 250 people had been arrested since Trump took office, a 182% increase in immigration arrests.
