It appears the Big Ten may be pushing for significant expansion of the College Football Playoff.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Saturday that the league has considered the idea of growing the field from 12 to 24 or 28 teams.

Additionally, according to Thamel, the proposal would eliminate conference title games and offer many auto bids for all four power leagues.

The CFP debuted at the end of the 2014 season with four teams qualifying. The field expanded to 12 for the first time in 2024. There will be 12 teams in 2025, but additional expansion is constantly being discussed.
