It was a little difficult to find a parking space on the south end of Joseph Street in Chatham on Saturday.

That’s because there was a big gathering going on, but participants weren’t there to party.

They were there to practice their faith by helping a neighbour in need.

Numerous volunteers from the First Christian Reformed and First Presbyterian churches in Chatham were busy painting and doing some other exterior repairs to the Journeys Recovery Home as part of the annual Backyard Mission project.

Brenda Kelly, intake coordinator and board member of Journeys Recovery Home said the projects the Backyard Mission took on definitely needed to be done.

Noting the organization relies solely on donations from the community, she said it can take a while to save the money
