NEW YORK — When Paul Blackburn was finally activated after 44 days on the injured list, he sent the Mets a veiled message.

“I just want to pitch,” Blackburn told reporters at his locker on Tuesday. “I just want to be in a place and pitch, really. I’ve been on a flight every two days for the past month.”

“I just want to be somewhere and pitch,” he repeated.

After the Mets suffered another heartbreaking loss on Friday, Blackburn got his wish.

Soon after the Mets’ 11-9 loss to the Seattle Mariners, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com first reported that Blackburn was going to be designated for assignment. The move will serve to make room for Saturday’s probable starter, Mets No. 1 pitching prospect Nolan McLean.
