As I watched President Donald Trump’s press conference announcing the federal government’s takeover of the Washington, D.C., police department, and deploying the National Guard to assist them, it was impossible to not notice the hypocrisy.

Trump cherry-picked violent incidents to paint a picture of chaos, ignoring that crime has dropped sharply in both D.C. and the nation overall.

He conveniently left out what many consider the most violent act of violence in the modern history of Washington, D.C. For those with short memories, it was what occurred there Jan. 6, 2021, when the occupant of the White House was none other than Trump.

On that day, there was what could only be described as hand-to-hand combat between the violent mob and the Capitol police. Not only did Trump not address this
