The welterweight division is more exciting than ever, with Islam Makhachev stepping in and looking to fight champion Jack Della Maddalena, who took the belt from Belal Muhammad. With Muhammad no longer the champ and a possible Makhachev vs. Della Maddalena fight coming up, he was asked if he would face his friend Makhachev. The former champ, however, wisely avoided answering directly.

At the UFC 319 event, Muhammad was asked if he would fight Makhachev for the welterweight title. He said his focus is on winning his next fight first. Only after that would he think about going for the belt. Muhammad wants to stay patient and make sure he’s ready before taking on a champion like Makhachev.
