Desperate residents were Saturday trying to prevent a wildfire entering their Spanish village.
Residents armed with brooms worked with fire fighters to try and douse the flames right outside Veiga das Mara in Vilardevos, Ourense.
High temperatures in Spain have sparked a wave of fires that are of particular concern in Galicia, León, and Cáceres, with more than a dozen active fires worrying authorities. About 100 km (62 miles) away, near Carballeda de Avia, also in Orense, large columns of smoke are visible from the road.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, more than 13,600 members of the State Security Forces have already been deployed to fight the forest fires.
Temperatures will remain very high until Monday.
During the weekend, they could exceed 44 °C locally, according to the Spanish state meteorological agency.
