One of the first things new Red Sox catcher Alí Sánchez did when he found out he was heading to Boston was talk with Carlos Narváez.
Carlos Narváez and Alí Sánchez are not only fellow countrymen — they were also teammates in last season’s Venezuelan Winter League. That experience sparked a friendship that, according to both, has lasted all year.
“They welcomed me very well,” Sánchez told El Emergente in Spanish about his first week with his new team. “Carlos has helped me a lot. We’ve been in touch throughout the year. I always checked in on how he was doing. He’s a great kid and he has worked hard for everything he has accomplished.”
The Red Sox claimed Alí Sánchez off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on August 8, just a few days after Carlos Narváez suffered a knee injury.
