A new petition is calling for the state pension payments to be matched with 48 hours of work per week on the National Living Wage and given to people six years earlier. The proposal would increase the state pension to £586 per week starting from the age of 60.

Having garnered nearly 7,000 signatures at the time of writing, the idea clearly has some support, but one expert is pointing out the cracks in this fiscal plan. Karen Barrett, founder and chief executive of Unbiased , said it’s a dream that’s unlikely to become reality.
