BIGHORN CANYON, Mont. – The Dryhead Fire in Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area (NRA) has seen minimal growth and remains at approximately 214 acres, according to an official report according to the NRA. Fire managers estimated containment at 50% as of last night.

The area above the canyon's rim is considered contained, but scattered heat persists below the rim in steep, inaccessible terrain. Crews will continue constructing containment lines along the canyon rim and patrolling previously contained areas.

Firefighters will also scout and monitor the fire portion below the rim from the water today. Smoke is expected to be visible in local communities and park areas, particularly settling into low-lying areas in the evenings.
