Incumbent’s Recent Advertising Blitz Appears to Close Double-Digit Gap; 37% of Voters Undecided
A new Emerson College survey indicates that the race for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Texas is a dead heat between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn and Attorney General Ken Paxton. The poll, released on Friday, shows Cornyn with a slim one-point lead, 30% to Paxton’s 29%.
This result marks a significant shift from earlier polling, which consistently showed Paxton with a double-digit advantage.
The survey’s findings are the first public measure of the race since pro-Cornyn groups began investing millions of dollars into advertising to promote his record. Texans for a Conservative Majority, a Super PAC backing Cornyn, has spent over $3 million on advertising through the end of July.
