Astros ex-relief pitcher elects free agency instead of minors assignment

The Houston Astros made a few notable roster moves that included their pitching staff. One of those moves was moving Josh Hader to the 15-Day Injured List, and reinstating Shawn Dubin and Colton Gordon.

However, those moves meant the organization had to make other moves to accommodate the new arms.

That player was Hector Neris, who was Designated for Assignment, and had a week to be picked up on waivers. He was not, and elected to become a free agent today rather than being optioned to the minor leagues.
