PORTAGE, Mich. — One person is in the hospital following a boating accident on Saturday in Portage.
The Portage Department of Public Safety said it happened on Gourdneck Lake.
The initial report indicated a boat had struck a paddleboarder, and the person had chest injuries.
But Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority dispatchers quickly learned that a tube being pulled by a speedboat struck two people on a paddleboard.
Police said the boat brought the paddleboarders to shore off Portage Road, where rescue crews treated the victims.
Law enforcement said one person was taken to Bronson Hospital, where they remain in stable condition. The other person was treated on the scene.
Life EMS and Kalamazoo County Medical Control helped treat the victims on the scene, police said.
