While the UK swelters in another heatwave, some households need to be thinking ahead to winter and the increased heating bills the season brings. While eligible households can expect a bit of relief with the Warm Home Discount scheme, the government is urging people to check that the right person is named on their electricity bill before August 24.

The Warm Home Discount provides a one-off £150 discount on your electricity bill. It is usually made automatically, but some people may need to apply via their energy supplier or after receiving a letter of eligibility between October and January.

In order to get the automatic £150 savings, the person who is named on the electricity bill must be receiving a qualifying means-tested benefit. For some households, this can spell disaster.
