Donald Trump is getting away with a major "vulnerability" that needs to be exposed, according to one senator.
Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) has long been a thorn in Trump's side, and last year he made news when he said he wants his party's most dedicated activists to make fundamental changes to how they approach voters in the next election cycle.
Now, Schatz is flagging what he considers to be a Trump weakness.
It started when NPR reported Saturday that, "Electricity prices are climbing more than twice as fast as inflation."
"Across the country, electricity prices have jumped more than twice as fast as the overall cost of living in the last year. That's especially painful during the dog days of summer, when air conditioners are working overtime," the report states.
The news was flagged by Jesse D. Jenkins, a professor at Princeton Engineering, on X.
That's when Schatz joined in, saying simply, "It’s unclear to me why the political media isn’t covering this as a major Trump vulnerability."
A commenter replied to Schatz, saying, "Why aren't you covering it? Why, Brian, aren't you doing anything other than tweeting? Honestly?"
The senator from Hawaii answered, "Good point. I will now start working on politics and climate."
X user Andrew Fisher also pointed out a purported inconsistency:
"I very distinctly remember Trump promising before the election that he’d cut electricity prices in half," the user wrote Saturday.
