SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (NEWS10) -- "Nitrogen" pulled away from the field down the stretch on Saturday at the Saratoga Race Course to deliver trainer Mark Casse his first career win in the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes. The final leg of the triple tiara, the female equivalent of the triple crown.

Casse entered two fillies into the field, however neither entered as the favorite. "Good Cheer" closed as the favorite at 7/5 odds entering with just 1 loss in 8 career starts for trainer Brad Cox. The lone loss for "Good Cheer" came in the Acorn Stakes during the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival.

"La Cara", the other entry for Casse, pulled the upset win in the Acorn back in June and entered at 5/2. "Nitrogen" would enter the starting gate with 2/1 odds.

Down the final stretch it was "Nitrogen" holding on
