PETERSBURG – Summerfield football coach Dylan Szegedi got a pleasant surprise as he started building his roster for the 2025 season.
Six seniors who didn’t play last fall told him they wanted to join the team.
What happened?
“We didn’t have to say anything to them,” said senior lineman Hayden Dusseau of the newcomers. “They wanted to come out and play for this team.”
Winning will do that.
Summerfield won five games or less in every season but one from 2018 to 2023.
Aside from a 6-4 mark in 2021, the Bulldogs finished with four or five wins in all six of those years.
Things changed last fall.
The Bulldogs were 8-1 in the regular season, claimed the Tri-County Conference championship and qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
That has sparked a passion for footbal
