A popular pub in a posh Nottinghamshire village has revealed its plans to set up a farm shop and small café to attract more customers. The Martins Arms in the leafy village of Colston Bassett has asked Rushcliffe Borough Council for permission to turn its stables into an organic farm shop, small coffee shop, and wine store.

The pub , which described itself as "excellent" and "renowned" in planning documents, told the council this would help the business combat the financial pressures currently facing pubs and restaurants. "To make the Martins a success, it is necessary to expand the range of food and drink as well as attract more customers," the pub's planners said.
