JENKS — Since the long-planned Tulsa Premium Outlets mall opened a year ago, it has been a game-changer for the city.
While complete sales-tax figures since the mall opened on Aug. 15, 2024, are not yet in, the city has seen sales-tax revenue jump by more than 38% from August last year through June.
In Oklahoma, municipalities can use only sales taxes for things such as improving streets and hiring new firefighters and police officers; they cannot use property taxes.
“The whole thing’s been really exciting,” Jenks Mayor Cory Box said. He’s been on the city council since 2017 and has been mayor since 2021.
