A man has been identified after being fatally struck by a car while crossing an intersection in North Long Beach on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 8:52 p.m., Nassau County police announced on Monday, Aug. 18.

Paul Silvio, 42, of Island Park was crossing Austin Boulevard at the intersection of Saratoga Boulevard when he was hit by a 2001 Mercedes, according to invesigators.

The car was being driven southbound on Austin Boulevard by a 27-year-old man, police said.

Silvio was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.

The driver remained at the scene following the collision.

Silvio’s sister shared a statement on social media, saying:

"Tonight my parents lost their son, my sons lost their uncle, and I lost my baby brother. … My brother was walking home with his dog and was struck by a car in a tragic accident. We are devastated and trying to wrap our brains around the fact that he is no longer on this earth.”

She added that the family is grateful for the outpouring of support and will share details about services at a later time.

The Homicide Squad is continuing its investigation into the fatal crash.
