STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — By the beginning of 2026, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will no longer sell MetroCards as the transit system switches to OMNY.

As the system moves to OMNY, the MTA will retire the pre-paid seven- and 30-day unlimited passes, along with the Express Bus Plus option.

Local buses will also no longer accept coins as a form of fare payment at some point in the future. Eventually, MetroCards will be completely phased out, marking a full transition to the tap-and-go system.

With only three Staten Island OMNY card dispenser locations , it’s easier for most Staten Islanders to purchase the tap-and-go OMNY cards from a local store.
