Eberechi Eze was denied an opening weekend goal against Chelsea by VAR.

The Crystal Palace midfielder thought he had opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Eze blasted a free-kick past Robert Sanchez from the edge of the box.

However, his celebrations were cut short by the match officials following a review.

Referee Darren England had been sent to the pitch-side monitor to watch a replay of the goal.

Marc Guehi pushed Moises Caicedo as the free-kick was taken.

The Palace defender shoved Caicedo out of the way to make space for Eze's powerful strike to bypass the Chelsea wall.

England's decision was announced to supporters inside Stamford Bridge.

It was the first time a referee has done so in a Premier League match after the process was introduced for this season.
