The Detroit Tigers recalled right-handed pitcher Brenan Hanifee from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.

He’ll take the roster spot of left-hander Brant Hurter, who was optioned to Toledo after Saturday night’s game.

Hanifee spent exactly 15 days with the Mud Hens, the minimum requirement before players can be brought back up to the big leagues. The fact that the Tigers recalled him at the first opportunity was not a surprise given Hanifee’s track record over the last year.

Hurter’s demotion, however, was more unexpected. While he had battled recent control issues, Hurter, who turns 27 next month, has a 2.51 ERA in 104 career innings since his debut last August, with 100 strikeouts and 33 walks.
