KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI – An investigation is underway after two people were killed in an overnight fiery crash.
The crash happened around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, in Oshtemo Township. Kalamazoo County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Stadium Drive and South 9th Street.
Police say a 19-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle near the intersection, went off the road and crashed into a traffic signal. The impact with the pole resulted in the vehicle catching fire, police said.
The driver, of Paw Paw, and a 17-year-old passenger, of Kalamazoo, were pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not identify the victims by name or gender.
Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash. However, the crash remains under investigation.
