SMYTH COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — The Virginia State Police (VSP) is investigating a homicide that occurred Saturday night in Smyth County.

The VSP said it was notified by the Saltville Police Department of a stabbing in the 100 block of Daydream Ridge Road in the Town of Saltville at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday.

According to the VSP, one female died at the scene, and one suspect was taken into custody, Daniel Baptiste, 31.

Baptiste has been charged with murder and use of a weapon in the commission of a felony, the VSP said. He is being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.

The VSP said the incident is being investigated as a possible domestic incident.
