TROY – Borrowing lyrics from the soundtrack of the 1970s movie Smokey and the Bandit , Troy head coach Gerad Parker told his team Saturday, “We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there,” following the second and final scheduled scrimmage before the season opener at home against Nicholls State in two weeks.
The defense dominated the offense in the two hours of work with the bright spots scoring-wise being three field goals – Scott Tayler Renfroe kicking through a 34-yarder and a 45-yarder on his only two tries and Paddy McAteer adding a 34-yarder on his only attempt.
“It was unbalanced today,” Parker said. “That’s the first practice you would say that. The defense got after the offense’s tail. So as the head coach, you’re happy at half of them and the other half you’re not.
