A man has been arrested at a hospital after allegedly having a firearm with eyewitnesses telling of seeing police swarming the area.

Police arrived at Arrowe Park Hospital, in Upton, Wirral, just after 4pm today, August 17. A 42-year-old man, formerly from Liverpool, has been detained on suspicion of possession of a firearm, Merseyside Police said. He remains in police custody for questioning while the investigation continues and visitors to the hospital have been told that there is now access as normal.

A force spokesperson said: "A man has been arrested at Arrowe Park Hospital today, Sunday 17 August. Just after 4pm armed officers were at the scene and detained a man.
