Marco Bizot’s first month at Aston Villa has exceeded his expectations, as he looks to keep Emi Martínez on his toes as the club's number one.

The 34-year-old joined from Stade Brest as a replacement for Robin Olsen , who left the club at the end of his contract to rejoin Malmö in his native Sweden.

Bizot has made the perfect start to life at Villa , impressing in pre-season before keeping a clean sheet on his debut against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Current holder of The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award, Emi Martínez - suspended for Villa’s Premier League opener - is expected to return to the starting XI for next weekend’s trip to Brentford. Bizot understands if Unai Emery makes that call and is clear about his role within the squad.
