HOUSTON -- Samuel Basallo ’s first MLB hit was nearly a three-run home run in his big league debut.
The 21-year-old hammered a long fly ball to right field during the seventh inning of the Orioles’ 12-0 rout of the Astros at Daikin Park on Sunday -- but into the leaping glove of right fielder Jesús Sánchez, who recorded his second homer robbery of the afternoon .
It didn’t take long for Basallo to bounce back from the heartbreak.
An inning later, Basallo (the O’s No. 1 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 8 overall ) knocked a two-run single during a five-run eighth that sealed a spectacular performance for Baltimore’s new-look lineup -- one that featured Basallo a day after fellow prospect Dylan Beavers ( O’s No. 3 ) made his own Major League debut .
