CENTRAL CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - A small peach orchard in Central City says storms this summer are damaging its crop.

“It has been a good year to grow the peaches, but they grew so well that the trees won’t support them. And the episodes of bad weather pretty much wiped out a lot of them,” owner Len Shakespeare said.

Shakespeare said peaches need a good amount of heat and rain to grow, but this summer’s storms and excessive heat has been harsh on the crop.

“We just got an excessive amount of heat and an excessive amount of rain. Too much. Then top that off with the episodes of bad weather and the wind. It was too much for them to handle,” Shakespeare said.
