More than a year after Priority Waste became the most prominent trash carrier in southeast Michigan, several communities are still dissatisfied with their service, leading some to fine the company and at least one to put out bids for a new carrier.
Clinton Township-based Priority Waste, which serves about 1.1 million households in roughly 140 communities in Metro Detroit, contends it's performing in the "99th percentile" when it comes to trash pickups and told its customers to expect a rough patch when it took over GFL Environmental's contracts in July 2024. And while some communities say that service has improved, there are still issues.
Clinton Township assessed a penalty of nearly $47,000 against Priority Waste for missed pick-ups in June, though the company has disputed the amount, t
