A political rally organised by Minister of Finance, Simplex Chithyola Banda, at Nkhota in Kasungu ended in chaos after some individuals pelted stones at attendees.

The incident occurred towards the end of the meeting, prompting police to fire tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Among those present at the rally were newly declared Lilongwe Chilobwe Constituency winner Lawrence Chaziya, Minister of Lands Deus Gumba, and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) deputy publicity secretary Ken Nsonda.

Chithyola Banda had organised the rally to launch his re-election campaign ahead of the 16 September parliamentary elections.
